The project aims at the development and enforcement of the technical and vocational education and training of technicians and skilled labor to provide the specialized labor force required to assist in the rebuilding and development of the national economy.
Description:
The project, which is expected to be completed by the middle of 1999, will assist in satisfying part of the demand for the technical and vocational education by increasing the educational facilities needed and raising the enrollment by about eleven thousand students. The project consists of the following main components:
- Civil Engineering and Associated Works:
- Construction of 6 small-size schools, each with a capacity of 400 students: one school in Mount Lebanon. three in the north, one in the south, and one in Beqaa valley. The total built area of each school will be about 4300 m2 and each will have a technical and a vocational section with various specializations.
- Construction of 6 medium-size schools, each with a capacity of 800 students: two schools in Mount Lebanon, one in the north and three in Beqaa valley. The total built area of each school will be about 7900 in2, and each will have two vocational sections and one technical section with various specializations.
- Construction of 3 large-size schools, each with a capacity of 1200 students: one in Greater Beirut, one in the north, and one in Beqaa valley. The total built area of each school will be about 9950 in2, and each will have two vocational and two technical sections with various specializations.
- Equipment:
Provision of the required furniture for the classrooms and offices, and the laboratories and workshops equipment required for teaching and practical training.
- Technical Services:
Provision of the consulting engineering services to undertake the studies and designs and supervision required for the implementation of the various components of the project.
Financing:
The Arab Fund loan represents about 76% of the total project cost, and the Lebanese government will finance the remainder of the cost.
