Tasa and khallad Dams
A loan agreement for KD 30 Million was signed in Tunisia, on 27th of January 2019, to help finance the construction of Tasa and Khallad Dams in Tunisia.
The loan agreement was signed by H.E. Ziyad AL-Athari , Minister of Development, Investment and International Cooperation on behalf of the Tunisian Government, and by H.E. Mr. Abdlatif Yousef AL-Hamad, Director General/Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Fund, on behalf of the Fund.
The project aims at regulating Wadi Tasa and Wadi Khallad water, which are tributaries of Wadi Medjerda, through the construction of Tasa and Khallad dams, in order to provide additional water for supplementary irrigation to intensify the agricultural production in the land located in the plains adjacent to Wadi Tasa and Wadi Khallad. The project will also contribute to the flood protection of the lands and buildings located below the two dams, and contribute to the flood protection of the lands and buildings located below the two dams in the Wadi Tasa, Wadi Khallad and Wadi Medjerda basins.
The project includes the following main components:
- Tasa Dam Construction Works.
- Khallad Dam Construction Works.
- Technical Services.
- Land Expropriation.
- Project Management.
The loan will carry interest at 2.5% per annum, and will be repayable over 30 years, including a 6 years grace period.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries will be the beneficiary of the loan and will be responsible for the implementation of the project.
With the signing of this loan, the Arab Fund’s total contribution to financing projects in the Republic of Tunisia amounts to KD 1065.8 million.
